Frenger® supplies Aston Martin's New $387 Million Formula One Factory

Frenger® are proud to have recently supplied the new $387 Million (AUD) Aston Martin Formula One (AMF1) Factory with their Compact® Multi-Service Chilled Beams (MSCB) with Integrated LED lighting.

Located adjacent to the Silverstone circuit in Northamptonshire, the new 16,250 sqm Aston Martin factory is part of a wider 5-year plan outlined by Aston Martin to support their F1 Team's push for World Championships.

Designed by Ridge and Partners LLP, Frenger® was selected as the specialist manufacturer for the space conditioning for the new Aston Martin F1 factory offices, with the layout designed to optimise communications for race car development.

The project consists of three stages, starting with the main factory (Phase 1), a new wind tunnel (Phase 2), and an employee experience and events space (Phase 3), standing in place of the current factory which is set to be demolished after the team moves to the newly constructed $387 Million (AUD) state-of-the-art facility in May. This third phase will connect the buildings with a central street system linked by bridges.

Designed to fuel Aston Martin's charge towards the front of the grid, the purpose-built facilities deliver exactly what the team needs allowing for better communication and collaboration, accelerated car development and space for a growing workforce.

Alongside the three new buildings the complex will also include:

  • Associated parking and landscaping
  • Wild Meadows
  • Garden Area
  • Planting of 1,500 trees
  • Ponds for Rainwater Collection
  • Helicopter Pad

Frenger's Active MSCBs were installed in the bespoke open plan technical and design offices located on the second floor of the main building, helping to provide excellent levels of Thermal Comfort in a space carefully designed with optimum productivity and occupancy Wellbeing in mind.

AMF1 Climatic Testing

As showcased above, Frenger® provided a full-scale mock-up in one of their 3x in-house state-of-the-art Climatic Testing Laboratories. Project specific mock-up testing is a valuable tool allowing the client to fully assess the proposed system.

Frenger Systems® played a crucial role in the design process, which included hosting key partners at their UK Technical Facility and assuming a pivotal role in the lighting design to reduce uplighting.

Active Multi-Service Chilled Beam (MSCB) Units

The use of Frenger's Active Multi-Service Chilled Beam (MSCB) units maximised floor to ceiling height and incorporating Heating, Cooling, Fresh Air Delivery, Lighting, and other building services in a 100% prefabricated and fully factory tested unit also known as an integrated service module.

Frenger's Slimline Compact® MSCBs allowed Aston Martin to install them exposed removing the need for a suspended ceiling grid system which in turn creates the feel of greater volumetric space and also helps provide 'Dematerialisation'.

Chilled Beam Technology provides low running costs as ultra-Energy Efficient, Long-Life expectancy (in excess of 30 years), Low Maintenance (no moving parts or fans), Quiet Operation (typically NCR 25), good Thermal Comfort (CAT B of BS EN ISO 7730) and integrated LED lighting in accordance with CIBSE LG7 and with life expectancy in excess of 70,000 operational hours for the LEDs.

As mentioned before Frenger's Multi-Service Chilled Beam units are 100% prefabricated off-site in a controlled factory environment to offer a simple “plug and play” HVAC solution reducing onsite installation time.
